The difference in the body structures, abilities, and nature of men and women creates a chance of a difference in the illness they are likely to experience.  The type of disease an individual suffers from is determined by the genes, sex or the environment around a person. Due to the different nature of men and women, certain mental conditions are only experienced by women. Research has shown that when men are disturbed with stress and pressure, they are likely to develop drug and substance abuse and antisocial behavior. Disturbed women end up having depression which gives room for other mental problems than in men. Some of the psychological issues that affect women include anxiety, post-traumatic stress syndrome, reproductive mental health problem and eating disorders.

Anxiety

Women have high probabilities of having an anxiety disorder than men with symptoms of increased tension, exhaustion, worrying and fear. The difference in how individuals react to stress determines the level of anxiety disorder in a person. According to research, most women find it very difficult to absorb and deal with stress effectively and calmly which increases their chance of getting anxiety disorder. Estradiol, a hormone only found in women is also believed to cause poor response to stress in which leads to anxiety.

Post-Traumatic stress syndrome

Post-Traumatic stress syndrome is considered a type of anxiety disorder which also affects women more than it does to men. It is caused by going through traumatic experiences which happen mostly to women in the society. Traumatic experiences include sexual abuse, domestic violence, and discrimination. How an individual responds to these challenges decides whether there will be a case of post-traumatic stress or not. Most women react by blaming themselves for believing that they were the causes of the problems that led to the trauma, unlike men. It, therefore, affects them psychological leading to the post-traumatic disorder.

Reproductive mental health problem

Reproductive mental health problem arises during the period when a woman is pregnant. The process is exciting but brings along some mental health issues which when not dealt with in time affect the pregnancy. Reproductive mental health problems can also be caused by infertility, reproductive complications, and miscarriage. The disorder happens strictly in women and can only affect men through the behaviors of the patient towards them.
