Make sure to consider how the real-world perspectives on work breakdown structures that were offered by the presenters in this week’s Media Segment might apply to the work that your team will do this week in creating its own representation of this essential project document.

To complete this Application Assignment, work with your team to develop a Work Breakdown Structure document—a hierarchical diagramming of the work that must to be executed by the project team in order to accomplish the project objectives and to create the project’s required deliverables—which will be based on the information presented in the hypothetical Health Information Technology Project scenario that you read in Week 1.

First, collaborate with your team to identify at least five specific high-level deliverables for the hypothetical project. Next, decompose the project work to be performed for each of the identified deliverables into deliverable-specific work packages by subdividing each deliverable into smaller, more manageable components of work. For each deliverable, subdivide its work into between four and five specific work packages that represent the most fundamental components of the work to be performed.

Note: Refer to pages 119-120 of the PMBOK Guide for sample work breakdown structures that are examples of diagrammed deliverables and their work packages.

The collectively developed Work Breakdown Structure document will be submitted as part of a 2- to 3-page group paper. This paper should summarize your team’s collaborative efforts in developing its Work Breakdown Structure document and explain the team’s reasoning behind the specific high-level deliverables (at least five) that it defined as part of initial planning for the hypothetical project and included in the Work Breakdown Structure document.
